Mount La Crosse, Mountain summit in Jefferson County, Washington, United States.
Mount La Crosse is a peak in the Olympic Mountains standing at approximately 1,960 meters (6,430 feet) with steep slopes and exposed rock faces. The summit commands views across the surrounding ridges and valleys of this rugged mountain range.
The peak was originally known as Holy Cross Lake, a name given during the O'Neil Expedition of 1890. It later received its current name as the region was surveyed and mapped by explorers in the early 20th century.
Native American tribes of the Olympic Peninsula incorporated the mountain's presence into their traditional stories about the regional landscape.
The mountain is most accessible from June through September when weather conditions are more stable for climbing efforts. Visitors should prepare for steep terrain and variable trail conditions throughout the ascent.
The summit serves as a watershed divide between two river systems, with water flowing toward both the Dosewallips and Duckabush Rivers. This role as a drainage divide separating water flow across the peninsula is often overlooked by visitors.
