Whidbey Island, Island in Island County, United States

Whidbey Island spans 55 miles in length and varies between 1.5 to 12 miles in width, forming the northern boundary of Puget Sound near Seattle.

Captain George Vancouver discovered and named the island in 1792 after Joseph Whidbey, who led the expedition team that circumnavigated its perimeter.

The island maintains strong connections to Native American heritage through the presence of Lower Skagit, Swinomish, Suquamish, and Snohomish tribal territories.

Visitors can access the island via the Deception Pass Bridge in the north or the Clinton-Mukilteo ferry service in the south.

Seven distinct microclimates exist across the island, creating varying rainfall patterns from the northern to southern regions.
