Hedgebrook, Writing residency on Whidbey Island, United States
The residency features six individual handcrafted cottages spread across forested land, providing writers with personal spaces for their creative work.
Founded in 1988, Hedgebrook established itself as a dedicated retreat supporting women writers through residency programs lasting between two to four weeks.
Writers from different countries gather each evening for communal dining called The Gathering, sharing experiences and creating connections through freshly prepared meals.
Selected writers receive free accommodation in individual cottages along with daily meals, though they need to arrange and fund their own travel.
The residency accepts applications exclusively from women writers, including transgender women and female-identified individuals aged 18 and older.
