Burnaby, Metropolitan city in Metro Vancouver District, Canada
Burnaby is a municipality east of Vancouver in the Metro Vancouver region, stretching between Burrard Inlet and the Fraser River. The area combines dense residential neighborhoods with large green spaces, lakes, and forested hills that shape the urban landscape.
The area developed from the mid-19th century when loggers and settlers cleared the forested land and established early farms. After incorporation, the settlement grew through industrial plants and housing construction into the third-largest urban center in the province.
The name honors Robert Burnaby, a 19th-century pioneer and surveyor who mapped the Fraser Valley. Local residents use the many community centers and libraries spread across the territory as everyday meeting points and gathering spaces.
The SkyTrain network offers quick connections in all directions, with Metrotown serving as a major junction point. Many parks and trails are reachable without a car, and most public facilities lie along the main transit corridors.
Over 60 percent of all film studios in the province are located here, so international productions regularly shoot in residential neighborhoods and parks. Visitors often stumble upon film sets or blocked streets being used for filming during their stay.
