Port Coquitlam-Burke Mountain, Mountain peak and former electoral district in British Columbia, Canada.
Burke Mountain rises to about 1,270 meters (4,170 feet) northeast of Coquitlam, positioned between two protected provincial parks. The area now contains a residential community with multiple hiking routes that serve both casual walkers and more experienced hikers.
The mountain was named in 1859 after Edmund Burke by British Captain George Henry Richards during coastal surveys. It operated briefly as a ski area in the 1960s before being incorporated into a provincial park system.
The area has long held significance for Indigenous peoples of the region, and today residential neighborhoods coexist with hiking trails through forests and open spaces.
The best hiking season is from summer through early fall when trails are dry and well-maintained. Sturdy footwear and layers are essential since weather at elevation can change quickly throughout the day.
The ski area that operated here in the 1960s now contrasts sharply with the modern hiking trails and residential neighborhoods. Few visitors realize the mountain once drew winter sports enthusiasts before shifting to outdoor recreation focused on walking.
