Eightmile Lake, lake in Washington (state), United States
Eightmile Lake is a reservoir in the Cascade Mountains within the Alpine Lakes Wilderness area in Chelan County. The lake has rocky shores lined with trees and is surrounded by mountains with snow-capped peaks.
The reservoir was created about ninety years ago by a dam built to provide water for irrigation and support stream flow. After wildfires and flooding in 2018, the dam was classified as unsafe and plans were made to rebuild it.
Visitors come to this reservoir mainly for hiking and enjoying the outdoors. It is a popular spot for day trips and picnics, where families and solo hikers spend time by the water relaxing in nature.
The hike to the lake is a day trip of about 7 miles round trip with a steady climb of about 1,300 feet (400 meters). The trail is relatively easy to manage and takes about four hours total for the round trip.
Near the lake there is a remarkable formation of red rocks that looks like the moon's surface and is made of serpentine stone. This rare geological formation provides a dramatic sight on sunny days and is a popular spot for hikers to take photos.
