Alpine Lakes Wilderness, Nature reserve in Chelan County, Washington, United States.
The Alpine Lakes Wilderness extends across 414,161 acres of mountainous terrain with more than 700 glacial lakes in Washington's Cascade Range.
The United States Congress designated this area as part of the National Wilderness Preservation System in 1976, following extensive conservation efforts since 1946.
Native American tribes maintained strong connections to these lands, using the mountain passes and valleys for seasonal hunting and gathering activities.
Visitors need permits for camping and hiking in specific zones, particularly the Enchantments area, which requires applications months in advance.
The wilderness contains portions of four major river headwaters: the Skykomish, Snoqualmie, Wenatchee, and Yakima, supporting regional water systems.
