Alta Mountain

Alta Mountain is a summit in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness of the Cascade Range, rising to 6,275 feet (1,912 meters). The peak sits within the Wenatchee National Forest and features rocky slopes, subalpine meadows, and stands of evergreen trees.

The peak took its present form through glacial activity during the last ice age roughly 14,000 years ago. These geological forces carved out the rocky ridges and alpine features visible today.

The mountain stands as part of the Wenatchee National Forest, contributing to the preservation of natural resources in the Pacific Northwest region.

You reach the summit by hiking the Alta Mountain Trail, which is most manageable from July through September when weather conditions are most favorable. Bring sturdy hiking boots and layers to handle changing mountain conditions.

This peak ranks as the 47th highest in Kittitas County among 142 mountains, with a prominence of 585 feet (179 meters). This intermediate ranking makes it a favorite among hikers seeking challenging yet achievable summits.
