Mount Hinman, Mountain peak in Alpine Lakes Wilderness, Washington, USA

Mount Hinman is a mountain peak in the Cascade Mountains that rises to approximately 7,492 feet and features three substantial glaciers on its dome-shaped form. The steep slopes and exposed rock create a dramatic alpine environment within the protected wilderness area.

The mountain was named in 1934 in honor of Dr. Harry B. Hinman, who helped establish the Mountaineers organization in Everett. This tribute recognized his role in promoting mountaineering activity in the region.

The mountain draws climbers and hikers who come to experience remote alpine terrain and glacial landscapes. Visitors come here to test themselves against steep slopes and to witness how glaciers shape the landscape.

Climbing the peak requires wilderness permits and access through the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, which demands good physical fitness and mountaineering experience. Summer months offer the most stable snow and ice conditions for safer climbing attempts.

The glaciers on this peak have transformed dramatically since 1925, when USGS maps showed no lakes at glacier termini where water now pools. This visible change demonstrates how quickly glacial retreat reshapes the mountain environment.
