Red Rock Canyon State Park

Red Rock Canyon State Park features colorful sandstone cliffs, white clay formations, and volcanic rock outcrops at the convergence of Sierra Nevada and El Paso Mountains.

The Kawaiisu and Coso indigenous peoples inhabited this region, leaving petroglyphs and pictographs in the El Paso Mountains as evidence of their ceremonial sites.

Many Western films were produced in this location, including The Big Country and Jurassic Park, utilizing the distinctive desert landscape as their backdrop.

The park encompasses 27,000 acres with camping facilities, hiking trails, and off-road vehicle paths, accessible from Highway 14 between Mojave and Ridgecrest.

The park contains paleontological sites with fossils of three-toed horses, saber-toothed cats, and alligator lizards preserved in the sedimentary layers.
