Great Sierra Mine Historic Site
Great Sierra Mine Historic Site, Silver mining site in Tuolumne County, United States.
The Great Sierra Mine extends 1784 feet into Tioga Hill, featuring five stone cabins, a powder house, and a blacksmith shop from the mining period.
In 1881, the Great Sierra Consolidated Silver Mining Company purchased multiple claims near Tioga Hill and established the community of Dana at 11,000 feet elevation.
The mining site represents California's industrial heritage through its preserved structures and equipment, documenting 19th-century extraction methods and technologies.
Visitors can access interpretive signs throughout the site explaining the mining operations, while exploring the remaining stone structures and equipment foundations.
Workers transported eight tons of drilling equipment up 2,160 vertical feet using six heavy sleds pulled by ten men and two mules.
