Wapama Falls

The Falls Creek water cascades down 1,400 feet of granite cliffs, creating a powerful display at the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in Yosemite National Park.

The construction of O'Shaughnessy Dam in the early 1900s transformed the natural landscape, submerging 400 feet of the waterfall's base beneath the reservoir waters.

The name originates from the Sierra Miwok people who inhabited the valley before it became part of the Yosemite National Park system.

The 5-mile round trip trail to reach the falls includes moderate elevation changes and crosses several footbridges that receive substantial water spray during peak flow.

The waterfall maintains strong water flow throughout spring, while the surrounding area receives only ten percent of Yosemite National Park's annual visitors.
