Bullfrog County, Former county in southern Nevada, United States.
Bullfrog County was a territorial division in southern Nevada's desert region, completely surrounded by Nye County's boundaries. The entire area consisted of dry desert land with no permanent residents.
The Nevada Legislature established the county in 1987 in response to federal plans for storing nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain. This step was a strategic way to oppose the federal government's nuclear plans in the region.
The county received its name from the Bullfrog Mining District, where the local gold ore displayed a distinctive green coloration.
The administrative seat was hundreds of kilometers from the actual territory, creating significant management challenges. Running a jurisdiction with no resident population required unconventional approaches to administration.
The territory was the only completely uninhabited administrative jurisdiction in the United States, leading to legal problems with jury selection. The missing population made traditional court proceedings practically impossible.
