Goldwell Open Air Museum, Desert sculpture park in Nye County, United States.
Goldwell Open Air Museum is an art museum in the Mojave Desert that displays seven monumental sculptures spread across about 32 acres, including life-sized figures and abstract works. The installations are permanently anchored in the landscape and create an unusual blend of nature and artistic creations.
A Belgian artist founded the museum in 1984 with a sculpture made from plaster-soaked burlap draped over live models. Since then, other artists have added their works, and the site has grown into an ongoing project.
Artists from around the world have created works here, from cinder block structures to installations made from salvaged car parts, showing different views of desert art. The pieces were made over many years and reflect the creativity of different generations.
The site is accessible every day and entry is free, making it an easy-to-reach destination. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon, when the sun sits low and the sculptures are strongly lit from the side.
One of the sculptures, the Desert Flower, was assembled from old car wrecks found in the surrounding area. The work shows how artists use local materials to create something new.
