Golden Nugget Laughlin, casino hotel in Nevada, United States
Golden Nugget Laughlin is a hotel and casino on South Casino Drive in Laughlin, Nevada, sitting directly on the east bank of the Colorado River. The building holds a casino floor, an outdoor pool, a hot tub, a restaurant, a bar, and hotel rooms, many of which face the river.
Laughlin was founded as a gaming town in the 1960s by Don Laughlin, who built the first casino on the Colorado River and drew visitors from California and Arizona. The Golden Nugget opened during the town's growth period, when a row of casino hotels was built along the riverfront that defines the town today.
The name points to Nevada's gold rush past, which still shapes how many towns in the region are named and remembered. The casino floor is where most of the social life of the hotel happens, drawing visitors from neighboring states who come for a weekend of gaming along the river.
The hotel sits right on the Riverside Walk, a pedestrian path along the Colorado River that connects most of the casino hotels in Laughlin without needing a car. A water taxi runs between the Nevada and Arizona sides of the river, which can be useful if you want to cross to the other bank.
Although Laughlin is in Nevada, Arizona is right across the river, and from certain rooms in the hotel you can look directly into another state. The time difference between the two banks changes with the season, because Arizona does not observe daylight saving time, so the two sides are sometimes one hour apart.
