Kershaw–Ryan State Park

Kershaw-Ryan State Park is located within Rainbow Canyon and features natural springs that nourish white oaks, fruit trees, and wild grapevines along canyon walls rising about 700 feet. The site offers 16 camping areas with shade structures and picnic tables, plus four tent-only locations with access to restrooms and coin-operated showers.

Samuel and Hannah Kershaw established the area in 1873 by creating an orchard and developing the land for settlement. The location was officially designated as a state park in 1935.

The park serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors come together for seasonal festivals and celebrations throughout the year. You can sense how this shaded canyon space brings communities together during autumn and winter events.

The park is best explored during daylight hours, especially in warmer months when trails and facilities are easily accessible. Early morning or late afternoon visits are ideal for avoiding peak heat and enjoying the shade provided by canyon walls.

A spring-fed wading pool provides seasonal water activities from May through September, offering an unexpected cool respite in the desert setting. This small pool becomes a refreshing spot during the park's warmest months when shade from canyon walls is most appreciated.
