Emerald Bay, Unincorporated community in El Dorado County, United States.

Emerald Bay is situated on Lake Tahoe's western shore, with deep green waters framed by granite cliffs and Sierra Nevada forests. The location contains a 38-room mansion and offers a combination of natural landscapes and built structures.

The region became a state park in 1953, marking an important step in protecting its natural and architectural heritage. This designation followed years of private land use and growing desire to preserve the area for public access.

The Vikingsholm mansion, completed in 1929, displays authentic Scandinavian architecture with traditional Nordic decorative details and craftsmanship. The building style and interior design reflect early 20th-century fascination with Northern European cultures.

The area is accessed through hiking trails, boat launches, and camping facilities, with the busiest visitor period occurring between June and September. Visitors should know that trails are steep and proper footwear is needed.

The area received underwater park designation in 1994, protecting multiple shipwrecks and artifacts resting on the lake floor. These submerged objects tell stories spanning decades of boat traffic and human activity on the water.
