Little High Rock Canyon Wilderness

Little High Rock Canyon Wilderness is a remote natural area in northern Nevada with deep canyons, steep cliffs, and mountain ranges separated by dramatic elevation changes. The landscape features layered rock formations that create sharp valleys and natural barriers across the terrain.

The area witnessed conflict in 1911 between Mike Daggett's group and local cattle ranchers, resulting in the Battle of Kelley Creek with several deaths. This confrontation marked an important moment in the early history of this remote region during a time of regional tensions.

Ancient rock art marks these canyon walls, showing that people lived here for thousands of years and used the land's natural resources. These carvings remain visible in the stone and tell stories of those who came before.

This remote area is reached only through unmarked dirt roads and requires solid navigation skills and careful preparation. Visitors should bring plenty of water and navigation tools while being ready for changing weather and isolated terrain.

The rock formations display changing colors and shadow patterns that shift with time of day and sunlight angles. This creates an ever-changing visual experience where the landscape appears completely different at different times, making each visit unique.
