The South Jackson Mountains Wilderness extends across 54,536 acres of Nevada terrain with granite formations, mountain streams, and juniper woodlands.
The Red Butte mining district within the wilderness contains remnants of past mining operations, including preserved cabins near Bull Creek.
Indigenous communities utilized the natural resources of these mountains for generations, establishing sustainable practices for hunting and gathering.
Visitors can access the wilderness through Jackson Creek Road on the western side and Trout Creek Road on the eastern boundary.
King Lear Peak reaches an elevation of 8,923 feet, providing opportunities for technical climbing and rock scrambling activities.
