Doyle Peak, Mountain summit in Coconino National Forest, Arizona, United States
Doyle Peak is a mountain in Coconino National Forest reaching 11,460 feet with a broad, flat summit area. The highest point sits on the northeastern side of the mountain and can be accessed via marked hiking trails.
Between 1927 and 1932, the mountain housed an astronomical observation site for the Harvard-Cornell Meteor Expedition. This facility was then one of the highest scientific observatories in the world.
The mountain holds significance for scientific research, with a telescope installation that contributed to understanding meteor properties through innovative observation techniques.
The summit can be reached via marked trails starting from Inner Basin and takes about 5 to 6 hours for the full round trip. Visitors should be prepared for changing weather conditions at elevation and bring appropriate gear.
A shelter cabin near the summit was rebuilt in 2016 using mostly local materials but was heavily damaged by the Pipeline Fire in 2022. The structure had served as refuge for hikers and researchers visiting the mountain.
