Wu Gorge

The Wu Gorge extends 45 kilometers through steep mountain walls, forming the second section of the Three Gorges along the Yangtze River between Wushan and Guandukou.

During the Chen dynasty in 589 AD, General Lu Zhongsu positioned military forces within Wu Gorge to defend against advancing Sui dynasty armies.

The twelve peaks along the gorge banks include the prominent Goddess Peak, connecting to traditional stories about Yaoji who helped Yu the Great manage water systems.

Boat navigation through Wu Gorge requires careful timing due to frequent fog formations and varying water levels affected by the Three Gorges Dam system.

The Kongming Tablet, located beneath Jixian Peak in Wu Gorge, bears inscriptions attributed to the Three Kingdoms period strategist Zhuge Liang.
