Zhijinghe River Bridge, Steel arch bridge in Badong County, China
The Zhijinghe River Bridge is a steel arch bridge that spans across a deep river valley with a central arch reaching far across the gap. The structure carries major expressway traffic while connecting two steep mountainous areas on either side.
The bridge opened in 2009 and represented a major achievement in Chinese bridge engineering at the time of its completion. It became part of the transportation network connecting eastern and western regions of the country.
The bridge connects different communities within the Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, supporting local transportation and economic development.
The bridge is accessible via the expressway that crosses it and can be viewed from nearby areas or stopping points along the route. Keep in mind that the site is located in a mountainous region where weather conditions can change quickly.
The bridge stands at a significant height above the river valley, offering an intense perspective on the landscape below from the crossing. The massive steel arch elements visible in the structure demonstrate the engineering approach used to span such a wide gap.
