Zhanghe Reservoir, Reservoir in China
Zhanghe Reservoir is a large water storage facility in Jingmen, in Hubei Province in central China. The water surface covers about 104 square kilometers and is fed by the Zhang River and several smaller waterways.
Construction began in the late 1950s and was completed in 1966. The project was a major water management undertaking that enabled control of water flow and flood prevention in the region.
The name comes from the Zhang River, which feeds the water body. Today it serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors experience the quiet surroundings and observe waterbirds along the shoreline.
Early morning visits offer the best experience when the surroundings are quiet and birdwatching is most active. The area has marked trails and floating platforms that provide close access to the water.
Designated as a national wetland park in 2014, it transformed from heavily polluted water to a site with good water quality. This improvement has attracted protected rare bird species like the Chinese merganser that depend on clean water.
