Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park
Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park, War memorial in Angel Fire, United States.
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a state park in Angel Fire featuring a white chapel with the Sangre de Cristo Mountains as a backdrop, designed as a space for remembrance. The complex includes a visitor center, memorial gardens, and exhibition areas spread across the grounds.
The memorial began in 1968 following the death of Marine Lieutenant Victor David Westphall III in Vietnam, with his parents funding the project using his life insurance. This personal act of remembrance grew into a larger commemoration for all veterans.
The memorial serves as a space where visitors pause to honor fallen soldiers, with displays connecting them to personal stories and the lives of those who served. Names and objects throughout the site help people reflect on the human cost of conflict.
The site has walking trails, a gift shop, and restroom facilities easily accessible throughout the grounds. Parking is available near Country Club Road for convenient access to all areas.
The complex displays an actual Bell UH-1 Huey helicopter, the aircraft commonly used during the war, giving visitors a direct look at military equipment of that era. Life-size sculptures and a special table honoring those never found complete the display.

New Mexico combines geological formations with historical sites spanning multiple periods. The region includes cave systems such as Carlsbad Caverns, extensive gypsum fields at White Sands, volcanic landscapes at El Malpais National Monument, and unusual rock formations in the Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness. The territory also preserves evidence of pre-Columbian and Spanish settlement, including pueblo ruins, cliff dwellings, and seventeenth-century mission complexes. Sites range from ancient petroglyphs at Three Rivers to military installations like Fort Union. Natural attractions include hot springs at Jemez Springs, the volcanic crater of Valles Caldera, and the deep blue waters of Blue Hole. The collection features archaeological monuments such as Chaco Culture and Bandelier, geological curiosities like the hoodoos at Tent Rocks, and historic pueblos including Taos, which has been continuously inhabited for over a thousand years.
