Ruby Canyon

Ruby Canyon is a protected area along the Colorado River featuring tall red sandstone cliffs and steep walls that shape the landscape. The canyon stretches over several kilometers and displays various geological formations throughout.

The canyon was crossed by the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad in the early 1900s, which created an important connection between Colorado and Utah. This railroad route shaped the region's development significantly.

Native American petroglyphs remain visible on several canyon walls, indicating the presence of indigenous communities who lived in this region.

The area is popular for rafting and hiking, with limited overnight options and visitors should come well prepared. The best time to visit is during warmer months when water levels are more favorable.

In the Black Rocks section, rock formations visible are over a billion years old and show geological layers from very early times. These ancient structures offer insights into the deep geological history of this place.
