Davis Waite House, Historic residence in Aspen, United States
Davis Waite House is a Victorian wooden residence with decorative details located at the corner of West Francis and North Second streets. The main two-story structure connects to a modern outbuilding and has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1987.
Francis Orange built the house in 1888 during Aspen's silver mining boom. Davis Hanson Waite later purchased it and founded the Aspen Weekly Times newspaper there.
The structure contains one of Aspen's original log cabins beneath its wooden cladding, showing how early settlers built their homes in this mountain region.
The house occupies a corner lot, making it easy to spot and view from the street. Visitors can walk the neighborhood and observe the architecture while exploring nearby historic sites in downtown Aspen.
Herbert Bayer, an Austrian architect who shaped Aspen's modern transformation, designed the current picket fence while owning the property. His design influence extended throughout the town.
