Sweetwater Lake State Park

Sweetwater Lake forms the centerpiece of this park within White River National Forest, surrounded by forested hills and mountain landscapes.

In 2022, this location became the 43rd Colorado state park through an unprecedented partnership between state authorities and the U.S. Forest Service.

Local residents and conservation groups worked together to protect 488 acres of land around the lake from residential and commercial development.

Visitors can participate in fishing, boating, hiking, horseback riding, and camping activities while following specific regulations for each recreational pursuit.

The park stands as the first state park in the United States situated on Forest Service land, creating a new model for public land management.
