Ski Idlewild, Ski resort in Winter Park, Colorado.
Ski Idlewild was a ski resort in Winter Park that operated across terrain ranging from 8,700 feet to 9,100 feet in elevation. The area featured multiple runs and lift systems designed to serve skiers of different abilities.
The resort opened in 1961 founded by Dwight and Jean Miller with a double chairlift as its main lift system. A platter lift was added in 1967, and operations ended in 1986.
The resort provided a gateway to winter sports for beginners, with 60 percent of trails designed for novice skiers and 40 percent for intermediate levels.
The location was accessible during the winter season from November through April, making it a good option for skiers seeking practice runs. The terrain differences were manageable for visitors of varying experience levels.
After closing in 1986, the main lodge building found a second purpose as a storage facility for documents rather than being demolished. The surrounding terrain continued to serve cross-country skiers exploring the area.
