Rocky Mountain National Park

Rocky Mountain National Park extends across 416 square miles of mountains, containing 150 lakes, 450 miles of streams, and peaks reaching above 12,000 feet.

The National Park Service established this protected area in 1915 to preserve the natural ecosystems of the southern Rocky Mountains for future generations.

Native American tribes inhabited these lands for thousands of years, utilizing the mountain resources and establishing seasonal hunting patterns in the region.

The park maintains five campgrounds and 355 miles of trails, while visitors need timed entry permits during peak seasons from May through October.

Trail Ridge Road crosses the Continental Divide at 12,183 feet elevation, making it the highest continuous paved road in the United States.
