Jackson Lake State Park

Jackson Lake State Park is a natural area with a large reservoir, sandy shores, and multiple hiking trails throughout its grounds. The park spreads across thousands of acres where visitors can engage in water activities, camping, and walking among grasslands and open spaces.

The reservoir was created in 1901 by a water management project aimed at supporting agricultural irrigation. The naming honored a local pioneer who played a role in the area's early development.

Sioux, Cheyenne, and Arapahoe Native American tribes inhabited this region before European exploration began in the eighteenth century.

The park has numerous campsites equipped with showers, toilets, and electrical hookups for visitors. Weather conditions can vary significantly depending on the season, so plan accordingly for your stay.

The park received certification in 2020 for exceptional conditions to observe stars and night skies. Low light pollution makes it an unusual location for viewing the heavens within the region.
