Wyoming State Penitentiary

Wyoming State Penitentiary is a former prison in Rawlins that now operates as a museum open to visitors. The facility preserves original cell blocks, galleries, and administrative buildings that provide insight into the prison's structure and conditions throughout the 20th century.

The prison was established in 1901 and served as a maximum-security facility for Wyoming for over a century. It played a significant role in the state's criminal justice history and closed in 1981 when operations moved to a newer facility.
