Sprague Creek Campground

Sprague Creek Campground is a campground on the northeast shore of Lake McDonald with 25 individual camping sites surrounded by dense forest. The property sits directly on the waterfront and offers access to the lake along with basic facilities including flush toilets and running water.

This campground was established in the early twentieth century as infrastructure developed on the west side of Glacier National Park. It represents an early effort to make the area accessible to visitors.

Park rangers conduct educational programs at the nearby Lake McDonald Lodge, teaching visitors about local wildlife, vegetation, and geological formations.

Vehicles must be no longer than 21 feet, and trailers are not allowed, so visitors should plan accordingly with smaller vehicles or without towed units. The campground sits relatively compact, so arriving early during peak season helps secure a good spot.

Several campsites offer direct lake views while the dense tree cover provides natural shade on hot summer days. This combination of water views and forest shelter is uncommon among campgrounds in this region.
