Devonian Gardens

The Devonian Gardens occupy the fourth floor of a downtown shopping centre, featuring over 500 trees and dozens of plant varieties spread across about one hectare. The gardens include multiple water features that create focal points throughout the space.

The gardens were established in the 1970s through the generosity of the Devonian Group of Charitable Foundations and a local property company. This donation created an unusual project that gained recognition across North America.

This space serves as a gathering place where downtown workers and shoppers find a moment of calm among the greenery. For many visitors, the setting becomes a daily refuge where they pause and reconnect away from the urban pace.

You enter the gardens directly from the shopping centre and can walk through all areas without difficulty, as pathways connect the different sections. Weekday mornings tend to be quieter than weekends and lunch hours.

A large living wall naturally filters the air and helps regulate the indoor climate year-round. This system demonstrates how greenery can serve a practical function beyond decoration.
