Peyto Glacier, Mountain glacier in Banff National Park, Canada
The glacier stretches across the Canadian Rockies, forming part of the Wapta Icefield along the Continental Divide at an elevation of 2,700 meters.
The first scientific documentation of Peyto Glacier occurred in 1896 when Walter D. Wilcox photographed the ice formation during his expedition in the Canadian Rockies.
Scientists from around the world gather at Peyto Glacier to study climate patterns and glacial dynamics, making it a center for environmental research.
Visitors can reach the glacier observation point through a marked trail from the Icefields Parkway, which offers parking facilities and information panels.
The glacier feeds Peyto Lake with mineral-rich meltwater, causing the downstream water body to display bright turquoise colors during summer months.
