Qatar Bahrain Causeway, Causeway project between Qatar and Bahrain
The Qatar-Bahrain Causeway is a proposed bridge project designed to connect the northern coast of Qatar with Bahrain across the Persian Gulf. The crossing spans roughly 45 kilometers and will include vehicle lanes alongside dedicated railway infrastructure.
The concept for this causeway was first suggested in 1999, with formal project discussions starting in 2008. The initiative aims to strengthen overland connections between the two Gulf states.
The causeway project reflects the shared vision of Qatar and Bahrain to establish direct land transportation links between their nations.
The project is planned with a navigation opening that allows sea vessels to pass through. The entire structure is designed as connecting infrastructure, accommodating both road traffic and trains.
The design includes a wide channel through which large ships can pass without damaging the bridge. This was one of the major challenges in planning the structure.
