Saint Hilarion Castle rises 622 meters above sea level, consisting of three distinct sections connected by stone staircases and defensive walls.
The castle began as a monastery in the 10th century when Byzantines constructed a church over the tomb of a hermit monk named Hilarion.
The castle served as both a military stronghold and a summer residence for Lusignan nobility, featuring royal apartments with Gothic-style windows.
The castle requires sturdy footwear for climbing numerous steps, and visitors should bring water supplies, especially during summer months.
From Prince John's Tower at the highest point, visitors can see the Taurus Mountains in Turkey, approximately 100 kilometers across the Mediterranean Sea.
