The cathedral stands within the ancient walls of Nicosia, featuring architectural elements that combine Lebanese and Cypriot building traditions in its design.
The cathedral, established in 1960, replaced an earlier Maronite church of Santa Croce, which the Franciscan order previously managed in the city.
This religious center maintains strong connections with Lebanon through its Maronite traditions, displayed through ceremonies, symbols, and regular community gatherings.
Visitors can reach the cathedral at 8 St. Maron Street near Paphos Gate, with religious services conducted according to the Maronite Antiochian rite.
Two papal visits marked the cathedral's prominence: Benedict XVI in 2010 and Francis in 2021, establishing its role in Mediterranean Catholic relations.
