The National Library of Equatorial Guinea houses approximately 60,000 volumes including books, manuscripts, photographs and printed works related to the country's heritage and international publications.
Established on June 4, 2009, the library occupies the former workshop of sculptor Leandro Mbomio Nsue, which underwent rehabilitation between 2007 and 2008 for its cultural transformation.
The institution actively collects works by national authors and materials referencing Equatorial Guinea while organizing literary contests, painting exhibitions, sculpture shows, theater performances and cinema events.
Operating Monday to Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Thursday from 3:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and Friday from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM for research consultation and lending services.
The library was initially directed by Guillermina Mekuy, a 26-year-old writer and lawyer who published two successful novels in Spain while managing this national cultural institution.
