Shirvan

Located on the banks of the Kura River, Shirvan extends over 72.7 square kilometers with a population density of 1226 persons per square kilometer.

The settlement, originally named Zubovka in the 19th century, gained city status in 1963 and received its current name Shirvan in 2008.

The population consists of 98.5 percent Azerbaijanis, with Russians, Ukrainians, Tatars, and Turks forming smaller communities within the urban environment.

The oil sector drives the local economy, generating approximately 90 percent of the total industrial output in the Shirvan region.

Archaeological excavations around Shirvan reveal ancient craft districts and trading routes that indicate continuous settlement patterns throughout multiple centuries.
