Mayoralty of Baku, Baroque government building in Baku, Azerbaijan

The Mayoralty of Baku is a two-story administrative building with red brick walls and colored Italian marble decorations. Its main facade features three golden torches representing Baku's symbolic emblem.

Construction took place between 1900 and 1904 under architect Józef Gosławski's design during Baku's oil boom period. The building emerged when the city was expanding rapidly and developing its modern infrastructure.

The building reflects European design influences mixed with local building traditions visible in its decorative details. Visitors walking through notice how ornamental choices blend continental taste with regional character.

The building sits in the Sabail district on Istiglaliyyat Street, making it easy to locate. Inside, a marble staircase and representation rooms provide a good sense of the structure's design and layout.

The structure served different purposes throughout its history, including housing political organizations and legislative bodies at various times. This shifting past is subtly reflected in how the spaces function today.
