Statue of Fuzuli

The Statue of Fuzuli stands in Fuzuli Square, depicting the poet in a thoughtful pose on a granite pedestal, with the entire composition reaching approximately 12 meters in height. A fountain in the front area adds a gentle water feature to the space.

The monument was unveiled in 1962 following a competition launched in 1958 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Muhammad Fuzuli's death. The artists Tokay Mammadov and Omar Eldarov created this work during that period.

The monument honors Muhammad Fuzuli, a 16th-century poet whose works in Persian and Azerbaijani shaped the region's literary tradition. His legacy remains visible in how locals regard this square as a place connected to their cultural roots.

The monument sits in a central location within Baku and is easy to reach while exploring the city. The surrounding square with its fountain provides a pleasant spot to pause and take in the surroundings.

Artists Tokay Mammadov and Omar Eldarov received silver medals from the USSR Academy of Arts for their sculptural work. This recognition highlights how the piece was regarded as an important artistic achievement during the Soviet era.
