Mardakert District, Administrative district in Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan
The district extends across mountainous terrain with multiple settlements, including its capital city Ağdərə, covering a substantial area in the northern region.
Established on August 8, 1930, as Jrabert district, the region was renamed to Mardakert district in 1939 and remained part of Azerbaijan SSR until 1991.
The district recorded significant demographic shifts through census data, with the population including Armenian, Azerbaijani, and Russian communities between 1926 and 1979.
The administrative center coordinates at 40.215278°N and 46.812778°E provide essential reference points for territorial governance and regional planning.
On October 13, 1992, authorities divided the district into three parts, distributing territories among Kalbajar, Tartar, and Ağdam districts.
