Dschraberd

Dschraberd is a medieval fortress situated on a mountain ridge west of Chileburt village in Azerbaijan. The stone structures feature defensive walls and residential buildings arranged according to medieval military principles.

The fortress was strengthened in the 13th century under Prince Hasan Jalal I Dawla and expanded into a major stronghold against invading forces. These reinforcements made it a center of local power during that period.

The fortress served as a seat for the Hasan-Jalalyan dynasty and reflects building methods typical of the region. Visitors walking through can see how the architecture integrated local construction traditions of its time.

The site can be reached from Chileburt village via a hiking path that leads into the mountains. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear, as the trail is steep and uneven in places.

Archaeological research shows that Sahl Smbatean was involved in the construction and used engineering techniques from the 9th century. These early methods continue to shape the appearance of the structures at this location today.
