Garayazi State Nature Reserve, Protected nature reserve in Kazakh region, Azerbaijan
Garayazi State Nature Reserve is a protected area along the Kur River in Azerbaijan's Kazakh region that preserves river-valley forests. The landscape contains stands of white poplar, oak, alder, and acacia trees spread across the woodland ecosystem.
The reserve was established in 1978 to protect the riparian woodland ecosystem along the Kur River. A major expansion occurred in 2003 when additional forest land was incorporated into the protected territory.
The reserve belongs to Azerbaijan's network of natural protected areas, representing the commitment to maintain ecological systems near the Kur River.
The area can be explored on foot using woodland paths and the river as natural guides. Visitors should expect wet or muddy conditions, particularly in areas close to the water where marshy ground is common.
The reserve protects rare tugai forests, specialized riparian woodlands that provide homes for deer, wild boar, and pheasants. This type of wetland forest ecosystem occurs naturally only in a few river valleys across Central Asia.
