Juma Mosque in Baku

The Juma Mosque structure presents a square hall with four central columns supporting a conical dome decorated with oriental and European patterns.

The original building from the 12th century underwent reconstruction in 1899, funded by Baku philanthropist Khadja Shikhali Dadashev to create the current structure.

After serving as a carpet museum during Soviet times, the mosque returned to its religious function in the 1990s for the Muslim community.

The mosque includes separate prayer sections for men and women, with modern heating and lighting systems installed during the 2008 renovations.

Archaeological findings reveal that before becoming a mosque, the site contained a pagan temple, with four uncoated arches still visible today.
