Baldha Garden, Botanical garden in Wari, Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Baldha Garden is a botanical garden in Wari, Dhaka, organized into two sections named Cybele and Psyche with water features throughout. The grounds contain around 672 plant species and feature a modern tissue culture laboratory for propagating rare varieties.
The garden was founded in 1909 by Narendra Narayan Roy Chaudhury, a landowner who developed it continuously until 1943. This period of expansion established the core collection that remains today.
The garden serves as a meeting place where locals gather for morning exercise and meditation among the trees. It also functions as a research center for studying rare plants from around the world.
The Department of Forestry manages the grounds, and you can move easily between the two sections using the walking paths. Visit early in the morning when it is cooler and less crowded.
The garden contains thousands of individual trees, including tropical water lilies and African tulip trees sourced from different parts of the world. This global collection makes it one of the few places in Dhaka where you can see such a diversity of plants from distant regions in one location.
