Beauty Boarding, Historic meeting house in Bangla Bazaar, Dhaka, Bangladesh
Beauty Boarding is a two-story building in the Bangla Bazaar area of Dhaka, built around an open central courtyard. Long verandas run along the rooms and give the structure its recognizable layout.
The building started as a zamindar's home and was later used as a newspaper office before becoming a boarding house. It was given its current name in 1951, after the daughter of owner Nalini Saha.
It served as a gathering place where Bengali writers and poets met to discuss and create their work over tea. This literary tradition shaped the building as a center for artistic exchange in the city.
The building sits on Paridas Road in Bangla Bazaar and is easy to reach by rickshaw from central points like Sadarghat or Gulistan. Going in the morning gives you a better chance to explore the surrounding streets without the crowds.
The building is known for serving traditional Bengali food, especially Rui fish and mutton leg, at low prices that have changed little over the years. This has made it a regular stop for people coming to the Bangla Bazaar area.
