Sonargaon, Ancient archaeological site and historic village in Narayanganj District, Bangladesh.

Sonargaon is a historic village and archaeological site in Bangladesh that preserves the remains of a former trading center along the riverbank. The area contains roughly 52 brick buildings, ancient temples, mosques, and other structures that show visitors how the settlement was organized in earlier times.

The area served as the capital of eastern Bengal until the 17th century, when rulers moved the administration to Dhaka. This shift ended its role as the region's political heart.

The Folk Arts and Crafts Foundation displays traditional Bengali handicrafts and objects from different communities across Bangladesh, showing how local artisans have kept their skills alive through generations. Visitors can see everyday items and artistic works that reflect the daily life and beliefs of people throughout the region.

The best time to visit is between October and March, when temperatures are cooler and rainfall is lighter. Wear comfortable shoes since you will be walking across the grounds, and paths can be uneven in places.

The area was once famous for producing Muslin, a fine cotton fabric that was traded worldwide during medieval times. This cloth was so valuable it became central to the region's economy.
