মুক্তারপুর সেতু, Road bridge in Munshiganj, Bangladesh.
The Muktarpur Bridge is a road bridge over the Dhaleshwari River in Munshiganj district, Bangladesh. It has 37 sections held up by 36 pillars and carries two lanes of traffic while leaving enough clearance for river boats to pass underneath.
Construction started in 2005 and the bridge opened in 2008 as the sixth project in the Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge series. Before it was built, crossing the Dhaleshwari at this point was much slower and depended on ferries.
The bridge connects the flat rice-growing land around Munshiganj to the markets of the capital, so farmers and traders cross the river every day. Trucks loaded with goods share the road with motorcycles and pedestrians moving between village and city.
The bridge sits on the main road between Munshiganj and Dhaka, making it easy to reach from either town. Traffic is heavy throughout the day, especially from trucks, so crossing on foot requires some care.
Even though the bridge was built for road traffic, the waterway beneath it remains one of the busiest transport corridors in the area, since much of Bangladesh still moves goods by boat. On any given day, loaded cargo boats can be seen slowly passing under the deck.
