Meghna Bridge, Road bridge in Dhaka, Bangladesh
The Meghna Bridge extends 930 meters across the Meghna River, featuring thirteen spans with a dual carriageway and pedestrian walkways on both sides.
The bridge opened on February 1, 1991, marking a significant infrastructure development project constructed with Japanese engineering expertise through Nippon Koei Company.
This structure bears the official name Japan Bangladesh Friendship Bridge 1, representing the strong partnership between Bangladesh and Japan in infrastructure development.
The bridge connects the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, accommodating over 10,000 vehicles daily and facilitating goods transportation between these major economic centers.
The structure includes nine spans of 87 meters each, supported by hexagonal piers measuring 11 meters in length and 3.2 meters in width.
